The story
Vasanti Ragini — the melody of spring. Long ago my sister gave me a calendar of Indian paintings, and I drew one of them; I lost that illustration and it has pricked at me ever since, so I painted it again from memory. On a marble terrace a nayika reaches up to a flowering branch, her rose anarkali and green-gold dupatta bright against a spring-green sky. Ragamala turns each raga into a season and a mood; this one is the first warmth of the year.
