The story
Rani Ragini — a queen drawn in profile, the way the miniature tradition loved to frame its heroines. She wears a deep teal drape and gold at brow, ear and throat, and holds a single small blossom between her fingertips. We turn to art, I think, to be carried somewhere else — to jolt the eye into seeing what it had not seen before. This one began as that small seed of an idea and grew into a portrait.
