The story
Gudhal — the hibiscus, the crimson flower of morning offerings, laid at the Devi’s feet before the day begins. It flares scarlet against the white of the handmade paper, its serrated leaves painted tooth by tooth in the miniature manner. A letter, too, is a kind of offering. Painted by hand in watercolour, one envelope at a time, so no two are ever quite alike.
